If you've been planning a working holiday in Canada, time is almost up for this year. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has confirmed that the 2026 International Experience Canada (IEC) season is closing. Here's what you need to know, and what to do this weekend if your profile isn't in yet.
What changed
IRCC has announced the final steps for the 2026 IEC season:
- The final round of invitations for all remaining pools will happen the week of October 19, 2026.
- You must submit your IEC profile before 9:00 a.m. Eastern Time on Monday, October 19, 2026 to be considered for the 2026 season.
- If you receive an invitation to apply (ITA) before the season closes, or you have already started your work permit application, you can still finish and submit your work permit application.
After this round, you'll have to wait for the next IEC season to be considered.
Who it affects
IEC lets young people from countries and territories that have a youth mobility arrangement with Canada come here to work and travel. In general, it's open to people aged 18 to 35. In some countries, the age limit is 18 to 30. Eligibility and available categories depend on your country of citizenship. These categories can include Working Holiday, Young Professionals and International Co-op (Internship).
Partner countries and territories include Australia, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Japan, the Republic of Korea, New Zealand, Spain, Taiwan and the United Kingdom, among others. Check IRCC's full list and the eligibility rules for your country before you submit.
This announcement matters most if you:
- Are eligible but haven't created your IEC profile yet
- Have a profile in the pool and are waiting for an invitation
- Have already received an ITA and need to finish your work permit application on time
What to do next
- Submit your profile now. Don't wait for the weekend rush. The deadline is 9:00 a.m. ET on October 19, 2026. Remember to convert that time to your local time zone.
- Double-check your eligibility. Confirm your country's age limit, category requirements and any spots available on IRCC's "Rounds of invitations" page.
- Get your documents ready. If you're invited, you'll need to move quickly. Gather your passport, police certificates, a CV and proof of funds, plus anything else your category needs.
- Already invited? Keep going. IRCC has confirmed that people invited before the season closes, or who have started their work permit application, can still complete and submit it. Watch the deadline in your account.
- Ask for help if you're unsure. A small mistake in a profile or application can cost you your chance this season.
